When the vent hood is installed in recirculation mode, the air is picked up and passes through multiple filters including the charcoal filter that absorbs odors. Doos a fine job for a hood that vents in room. It would be better if it was hooked up to vent outside, but I'm working with what I have.... Works easy though, light options are good.
